Gough and Wrigley break cover with solid points at British GT opener

The opening round of the 2024 British GT Championship and season two of The Race to Save Live, supporting The Lions Barber Collective, took place over the easter weekend at the popular Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.

Gough and Wrigley, among the championship title favourites, made solid progress over the course of the weekend and their first with Century Racing and the BMW M4. The pair we’re unable to show their full potential due to intermittent electronic issues over the two one hour sprint races but, despite the challenges, Ian and Tom placed 5th and 3rd in class over the two one-hour sprint races, leaving them third in the Pro-Am drivers championship.

Ian Gough commented;

“It’s weekends like these, where things don’t quite go to plan but still put good points on the board,  that make the difference at the end of the year. We’ve actually had a really positive weekend. We found a balance in the car that worked for us and felt like we had a race winning package, and the team is forming around us really well. But there seems to be a software issue that BMW will look at before we’re next race that is making the car very difficult to drive when it kicks in - it effectively disables all electronic assists which are helpful in the dry and essential in the wet! Century Motorsport and Suspension Secrets have been fantastic all weekend, we’re confident for the season ahead.”

The on-track action was typical of a wet easter weekend, with plenty of thrills and spills. But the weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the spectators who braved the conditions to show their support for The Race to Save Lives, with the popular pop-up barber and racing simulator experience busy right through the day, raising awareness for mental health and important donations for the cause.

Tom Chapman, charity founder commented;

“It’s fantastic to be back at a race track, with The Race to Save Lives. We love meeting the public, offering them a great service whilst raising awareness – it’s such a fantastic way to tackle stigma around mental health. I continue to be humbled by the visibility, time and media coverage we are given over these weekends – we know that starting the conversation is powerful in addressing issues and this platform does just that. Thanks to all the public who stopped by for a trim, a go on the sim or just to donate. It makes a huge difference.”

Ian, Tom and the team start preparations for the Silverstone 500 at the end of the month, a three hour endurance race at the circuit famous for hosting The British Grand Prix. We look forward to seeing your there.
